When Philip Malott enrolled for service in the Civil War on 3 November 1864, the record described him: “born in Brown Co. in the State of Ohio, is thirty five years of age, 5 feet 8½ inches high, light complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation when enrolled a Farmer.”
