Updates to Malott.net since the redesigned site went live on 24 September 2026, newest first. Many of these came from records, photos and stories that family and fellow researchers have shared. Thank you. If you have something to add, please get in touch.
Three censuses, Delos’s marriage and draft, and Dory’s family
- The 1850 census finds Prather Malott, born in Maryland, farming in Green Township with his wife Sarah and three children new to the site, including Hugh C., very likely the Calvin Malott who lived next door to Delos in 1870.
- Delos C. Malott’s 1853 marriage record, his 1863 draft registration, and his household in the 1870 census, with the Malott neighbors around him.
- The 1910 census of Sterling Township, which raises the question of whether Lou Anna was still living, six years after the date on her stone.
- A Lane family history adds dates for Ann Lane and five more children of Theodore “Dory” Malott; his 1965 headstone application gives his Revolutionary War service in full and his pension number.

Gideon in the New World, and new DNA results
- The Company’s Offer: Gideon’s own entry in the Dutch West India Company’s ledger of passage money, 175½ guilders for the crossing of 1662.
- The Staten Island Years: the family’s twenty years under Dutch and English rule, from Gideon’s work as constable to the move to New Jersey.
- Big Y-700 DNA results show that the Malott and Mellott line from Theodore (1694) is genetically distinct from Gideon’s; see the DNA update. Theodore’s 1694 baptism fixes his birth date.
- New artists’ conceptions, created with AI and labeled as such, illustrate the 1662 crossing and the English takeover of 1664.
- A new section on the About page on how this site was built.
A state representative, a lost daughter, and famous namesakes
- Harry C. “Bud” Malott, Ohio state representative, and his family.
- Helen (Malott) Gallagher, George Dewey Malott’s daughter from his first marriage, traced through the 1930 census and her obituary, with her mother’s later life.

- The Purmerland Church: the ship that brought the family to New Amsterdam, with its full passenger list and a map of Atlantic routes.
