Research note: whose son was Isaac?
The original family file made Isaac the son of John Marlatt (born 1743) and his second wife, Elizabeth Willcox (born 1746), who would have been 57 at his birth. That was a mix-up. A grave marker at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church cemetery in Grimsby reads “Paul, father of Isaac Marlatt, 1772–1844,” and family histories of the Wilcoxes of Grimsby give Paul Marlatt and his wife Elizabeth (Elsie) Wilcox, born about 1772, a son Isaac, born about 1803. Isaac now stands as their son, and the “Elizabeth Willcox” of the old file is taken to be Elsey Wilcox. The match rests on the names, the dates and the place, not on a record naming Isaac’s mother.
