Daniel was an executor of his father’s will, and later its only surviving executor. He served as sheriff at Hagerstown and as a lieutenant colonel in the War of 1812. A marriage in 1804 to Susannah Blew is claimed for him by some sources, but may belong to his nephew Daniel, a son of Dory.
