Peter was captured with his mother and sisters on the Ohio River around 1780 and taken to Detroit. He married Mary Jones, herself a former captive, lived briefly on Grosse Ile, then traded a cow for 200 acres in Gosfield Township, Ontario, where he died on 3 December 1815. Family tradition says he later found his father alive and remarried in Maryland.
