The family tree lists David (b. 1777) and Theodore (b. about 1783) as Joseph’s children with Caty South. That is probably wrong: Joseph and Caty did not marry until 1789, and both boys were born years earlier. They more likely belong to the family of Sarah Malott, captured on the Ohio River about 1780, or to Peter’s older brother Joseph. This Joseph, born about 1759, is also not the father of Catherine Malott Girty, being only a few years older than she was. See Joseph’s data sheet.
Joseph married Caty South in Madison County, Kentucky, in 1789, and Mary “Polly” White there in 1805. He died in Clay County, Missouri, about 1833. Only a few years older than his sister Catherine, he is not the Joseph whom some accounts name as the father of the Canadian captives.
