Research note: a Marlatt who married a Marlatt
Her husband was her father’s first cousin. He was a grandson of Abraham Marlett (1656–1716) through Dirck, a son of the second marriage; she was a great-granddaughter through Thomas, a son of the first. Lewis Vail, her cousin on her mother’s side, wrote in 1852 that her husband “though of the same name, was not of kin to her,” and seems to have misremembered her name as Elizabeth.
The original file entered her 1754 baptism as a son, “Pieter.” Her brother Peter was born a few years later.
