Orab Cemetery in Green Township, Brown County, Ohio — the same township the family is recorded in throughout this site, and the namesake of the local Brooks–Malott Road. Each stone is transcribed as carved, then checked against every person in the tree by name and by birth and death year.

Matches George Dewey Malott (1899–1985) exactly. Also names his wife, Mildred “Milly” Adams Malott (1910–1986). Her dates are hard to read in the photo; 1910–1986 is confirmed by family.

Matches Hiram Malott, already recorded with Matilda Smith as his wife but with no dates for either of them. This stone shows Matilda died young in 1844, and that Hiram later had a second wife, Mary (1826–1916), not yet in the tree.

Matches Theodore “Dory” Malott (b. 1755) exactly, and adds his exact birth and death dates and his Revolutionary War service as a fifer in the Maryland militia — none of which was in the tree before.

Matches William Samuel Malott (1861–1942). His wife is recorded on this site as Lou Ann Stratton, born 1869 — this stone gives her name as “Lou Anna” and her birth year as 1863. Worth a correction if you can confirm it.

Matches Francis (Frank) Malott (4 December 1861 – 9 October 1938), son of Oliver Malott and buried at Mount Orab. Not, as once guessed, a twin of William Samuel Malott: Frank belongs to the branch descended from David Malott (1777–1870).

No one born 1871 is in the tree. His birth year fits neatly as another child of Delos C. Malott and Margeret Waits, alongside their son William Samuel (b. 1861) — a likely sibling, not yet added.

Not the same Prather Malott already in the tree (born 1790, Delos’s father) — this one was born 85 years later. Families in this line reused ancestors’ names often (Theodore, Prather), so this is plausibly another son of Delos, named for his grandfather.

Delos C. Malott’s parents are recorded on this site as Prather Malott and Sarah Reeves — matching “P. & S. Malott” exactly. This would be an infant sibling of Delos who lived only 27 days in 1843 and isn’t currently in the tree.

Very probably Benjamin F. Malott and his wife Laura (Lora) Malott, who are recorded as buried at Mount Orab. The family records give Laura’s dates as 1850–1909 rather than the 1849–1905 carved here.

Possibly Syrenia Caroline Dunn, wife of Frank Malott (1861–1938); Frank died the same year, 1938. Her dates aren’t in the family records, so this is unconfirmed.

Very probably Rosella M. Malott, daughter of George Dewey Malott and Mildred Adams, named as “the late Rosella M. Malott” in her father’s 1985 death notice. A sister of Leroy Joseph Malott.
