Research note

His will is the key record for the whole family: it calls John Marlatt his brother, and the estate papers show debts shared among John, Jacob, James and William Marlatt. A granddaughter remembered him as “Bud” and his son Abraham B. Marlatt (born 1822) as “White-Headed Abe.” An Abraham Marlatt of Linton Township carried arms in the War of 1812; it may have been him or his father.

Placed in this family on the evidence set out on the page of his or her father, Abraham Marlatt: probable, not proven.
