Research note: not the father of John Marlatt of Ohio
This page once showed John Marlatt (1794–1871) of Coshocton County, Ohio, as Richard’s son, and gave Richard’s birth as 1752 at Hedgeville. Most online trees say the same. William P. Marlatt, a descendant of that John, shows it is a mix-up of two Richards and two Johns.
- This Richard was born after his brother Abraham (about 1761). The Richard (Dirck) Marlatt who married Nelly Marlatt in New Jersey in 1772 was a different, older man: his uncle, Dirck, baptised 1744.
- Richard and Lidy did have a son John, born about 1793, who was still in his mother’s household in Berkeley County in 1810 and later lived in Warren County, Ohio. John of Coshocton County was in Ohio by 1809 and belongs to the other family.
Their probable children: Abraham (about 1787, named in the 1801 will of Lidy’s father Jacob Beller), Jacob (about 1788), Richard (about 1790–91), Isaac (about 1791–92), John (about 1793), Lany (1794–95) and Rhuanna (5 August 1800). A supposed daughter “Baghail” never existed; the name is a misreading of Rachael on a headstone.
